Learning new things

Over the course of this week, it was more hands-on. Some key things that I have learnt were Risograph printing and block printing.

At the beginning of the week, I and a couple of friends went to the Risograph induction.

I went to the risograph induction because it was one of the printing methods that I wanted to use for my zine project. It was a very informative 45-minute induction session. We were taught how to use the machine, changing the masters and also how the colours would turn out when printed. We were also told that when you print using risograph, the ink never dries which is something that I have to take into consideration.

Block printing was another way of printing that we did.

It's a quick way to get different types of textures as print. We were given rollers, glass blocks and paint. During this whole session, we just explored what we could do with these materials. It was fun because it felt like I was in primary school art class again just exploring, experimenting and going wild and doing whatever we wanted.

At the end of the week, I went down to the printmaking studio to discuss my zine project. I honestly was kind of nervous as I'm afraid of how to execute the project. I have never dabbled with these types of printing (though I'm excited about the facilities), I was a little wary.

However, when I approached Tony, he was very helpful and he gave me advice on how to approach the project when designing it. He told me how I should layout my work in InDesign. My zine is going to be a little complicated as it comprises of using digital reprographics, risograph, and letterpress and I only have 1 week till the due date.

It's going to be a busy week.
